Although this doesn't really affect us in Moray,
BT have announced that a further 150 exchanges will be upgraded
to support SDSL. Closest to home, is Aberdeen, which was also one
of the first exchanges in scotland to have ADSL when it was first
released.
The complete list of additional 150 exchanges
can be found here..www.samknows.com/broadband/
SDSL means Symmetric Digital Subscriber
Line. The Broadband that we tend to have in our homes is ADSL -
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. with ADSL out upload speeds
are limited to 256kbps. No matter whether we have a 512kbps or
2Mbit connection we are limited to 256kbps (about 30K/sec) upload
speed. With SDSL the upload speed and download speeds are the same
so with a 2Mbit SDSL connection you will be able to upload and
download at 2Mbit *dribble* Sadly SDSL is being targeted at businesses
so it will probably be a while before the home users and rural
areas get a proper taste of SDSL. It will also cost much more per
month to get SDSL, and in many cases there is little reason for
ADSL (But then I'm sure someone said that about 56k a few years
ago.....)
